A collection of work by Nick McNamara

ARCHIVE

![Imara Gabe Diaz leads the city of Hampton's Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. While many cities and even companies have started offices or departments in recent years, Hampton's office has roots in work that began in the early 90s - and a different charge than many.
Their focus is community engagement, and recently have worked on efforts with residents to make sure their voices are heard when redevelopment projects are discussed in their neighborhood.
Restorative justice is at the core of Diaz and the office's work.
“It’s not going to be a one-and-done. If you want to do it right [then] you’ve got to take the time, you’ve got to slow it down, you’ve got to consider all the parties involved, impacted and that can support these efforts.
“That’s where the trust is built.”](https://scontent-iad3-1.cdninstagram.com/v/t51.29350-15/468131231_426187777221442_5230475245995494944_n.webp?stp=dst-jpg_e35_tt6&_nc_cat=110&ccb=7-5&_nc_sid=18de74&_nc_ohc=rnFmZH6jCSwQ7kNvwE6c3Zm&_nc_oc=AdlsRMQ0fbs_pc91__v1t8DcSXRh-om0FyEchS7DVIU9fC6Trxr6_KPEBRc6gDa_jR0&_nc_zt=23&_nc_ht=scontent-iad3-1.cdninstagram.com&edm=ANo9K5cEAAAA&_nc_gid=5zCo8YWitsUPMHgpBaMXIw&oh=00_AfFWs462fkBh5Dsbcx3VjCDwAg2i34TuyMYwfKVcFDxXZw&oe=6819E72F)

K-STATE MILITARY SCIENTIST TALKS US SENATE ROUNDTABLE PARTICIPATION
January 2022
I spoke with Dr. Arthur DeGroat, executive director of Kansas State University's Office of Military and Veterans Affairs. Dr. DeGroat had recently been invited to participate in a virtual roundtable discussion on veterans suicide prevention efforts that was hosted by Senate Veterans Affairs Committee Chair Jon Tester (D-Mont.) and ranking member Jerry Moran (R-Kans.).
Dr. DeGroat reflected on the roundtable with me and discussed his thoughts on efforts to increase veterans access to mental health resources.
