Notes from Northview
NFN was a hyperlocal micro-journalism project focused on telling stories about the happenings, issues and people of the Northview neighborhood in Manhattan, Kansas. Guided by a mission of community service and uplifting local voices, the project published online at northviewnotable.substack.com and was featured online and on-air at public radio station Wildcat 91.9 at K-State.
Statement of Purpose
Too often is our focus elsewhere. There are more than a few people with more awareness of what a governor across the country is doing than what is happening in their own backyard.

With such primacy placed on national level issues, figures and events, it feels as though news on the Greater United States takes more and more precedent over the work of local organizations — radio stations and newspapers — that aim to inform us about what’s happening here in Riley County, in Manhattan, in our neighborhoods.

That’s why I wanted to turn the microphone back onto the local community and dial in my focus, starting with Northview. Northview is full of vibrancy, but also is not without its issues, and Notes From Northview is an opportunity to place an emphasis on hyperlocal information again.

Through NFN, I worked to tell stories about people, issues and happenings in the Northview neighborhood in collaboration with the community, supplement the existing news coverage in Manhattan, and provide a service that can benefit the information ecosystem as a whole.
